A grid EA for gold that only adds levels in the direction of an EMA trend filter, with variable lot sizing, a take-profit per grid level and a hard daily loss limit.

Reading the numbers

How to read any backtest figure, including mine.

  1. 01

    Ask for the method

    Symbol, timeframe, date range, data type and costs. A percentage without them tells you nothing.

  2. 02

    Look at the drawdown first

    The deepest drawdown and how long it lasted decide whether you could have kept trading through it.

  3. 03

    Count the trades

    A few dozen trades can produce almost any result by luck. A few hundred tell you more.

  4. 04

    Check what happened out of sample

    Results on data the settings were not tuned on are the ones that predict anything.
